I have a couple projects that are important to me that dance around in my head each day. They never get the attention they deserve because the clients’ needs come first.
But I did have time to work on them a bit over the Holidays and I stumbled upon a concept in marketing I may use more often. It is almost like leading the cart before the horse.
One of my projects is not completed. Not even close actually. It is more of a concept / idea than anything you can put your hands on or sell. Recently I have gone about making the marketing material and website before even having it ready. The odd thing is, it has helped me mold and shape what I want to offer.
I started first with the content of site. I created content, not based on the actual product or service, but rather what I knew it would have to be to attract clients and sales. By doing this, I have set a benchmark and goals of just how good this idea has to be. If I cannot reach these, personally I feel it is not worth selling.
I am not saying I reinvented the wheel or stumbled upon something that is not being practiced before. I just find it odd, that despite my heavy volume of reading, I have never heard of this approach before. It seems to be a radical shift in the way I will approach all marketing in the future.
