I have been lazy. I was just going through the motions with our Google Pay Per Click advertising in the Detroit Metro area. Too many clients and too many projects was not allowing me the time I should dedicate to our advertising online.

A couple weeks ago I finally focused and simply created a custom home page regarding website design services in Detroit and the surrounding Detroit area and customized the ad to go directly to that page.

Now Detroit Metro website visitors clicking on our Adwords ad looking for website design bypass our home page and go directly to www.promptinternet.com/michigan.php.

The response has been a complete 180. More leads, less click throughs and bounces.

When it comes to your adwords, DON’T take anything for granite and don’t get lazy. Customize your message and page that you are sending them to.

It is adwords 101 and we should have been following our own advice but keeping clients happy is the #1 goal and sometimes that means Prompt’s needs take a backseat.

Sorry to babble on about Mad Men but catching up on 3 seasons has me hooked right now. From a business standpoint, I love that no matter if it is the 60’s or the 2010’s, marketing is about emotion.

Even decades ago, in the earlier stages of branding and marketing, their primary goal was an emotional attachment with the buyer that would compel them to “need.”

Nothing has changed. Whether you are selling a service, a widget or a hammer, there must be an emotional connection in the way you present your message. Otherwise, your just another salesman pushing something they can find anywhere else.

I have spent the last week watching Mad Men Season 1 through 3. Almost done and loving every minute of them. Although they are unique flavor and not for everyone.

I am also reading the Power of Less and trying to use it to incorporate two new positive habits a month.

I wish I had more to offer but maybe a moment of inspiration will strike tomorrow. Good evening.

There is no physical way I could make it to the office. Thank you goodness for technology. I have answered emails, browsed the internet, talked to workers via Instant Message, and more simply through my phone.

I am sure some will say this is a bad thing and that rest is better and that I am only extending my sick time. I am just happy that an entire day isn’t lost and I won’t go into a hornet’s nest at the office tomorrow from missing a full day of communication.

Today is a typical day that in weeks past would have lead to the death of my blog for long stretches. It has been a very, very busy day with conference calls, to-do’s, emails, etc.

This year I won’t let that happen. A short post is better than no post each day. So since I am crunched for time I will share a quote from a book I was reading last night.

“Always make the other person feel important.”

I don’t think that advice can steer you wrong in business or in life.
